Nickel Recovery

Recycling of Nickel bearing solutions, filtercakes, sludges and catalysts

FIS has extended their service to in house recovery and recycling of Nickel bearing solutions, filtercakes, sludges and catalysts. FIS employee’s in-house processes to produce non-ferrous concentrates from various industries.

merc-recThe Nickel rich filter cake material is recovered further by steam drying to produce a concentrate which can then be re-used and/or recycled. This process has now extended for recovery of other valuable metals such Copper, Tin and Cobalt.

The processes employed by FIS can range from a single to a multistage process which can include precipitation, steam stripping, sludging and steam drying.

Metal bearing solutions and electroless Ni, Cu and tin solution are stripped of any ammonia through the steam stripper plant, prior to sludging through a high pressure filtration press to produce a metal hydroxide filter cake.

Metal Hydroxide Filtercakes are fed through a Tubular Dryer consisting of a tubereel rotating within a stationary horizontal casing. The Tubular Dryer is an indirect contact dryer, utilising dry saturated steam as the heating medium. The Tubereel is outfitted with ploughs and shovels which agitate and transport the product to achieve optimal drying.

The valuable metal concentrates produced are suitable for re-use or smelted and recovered as metal or aqueous solutions which go back into the industry.

Acid Neutralisation and Dryer

FIS recycle and recover metal concentrates such as Ni, Cu, Co, Sn from industries such as:

  • Electronic industries
  • Catalyst production
  • Oil refineries
  • Aerospace and automotive industry
  • Stainless Steel Industry

Further to this FIS can produce metal concentrates from low metal content filter cakes therefore diverting waste currently being disposed to Landfill by offering a recovery ‘R Code allowing companies to meet the waste hierarchy is set out at Article 4 of the revised Waste. Framework (Directive 2008/98/EC).
